How does someone deal with this?

In the wake of the Minnesota bridge collapse tragedy, I came across this article in the KC Star and it struck me hard.  I’ve been thinking about it a lot ever since.  The house where this occurred is about 2 miles from mine, and on some longer walks we end up in that neighborhood.  I just keep thinking about how the parents must feel.  From the outside looking in, it’s easy to say to Mom “It’s not your fault.  Accidents happen.”  But how does she recover from this?  How does she come to grips with what happened?  How does the dad keep himself from blaming his wife?  How do they return to normalcy?  I don’t know.

  1. In our local news, we just heard about a mother who left her 5 month old son in the car while she went in to work. Totally forgetting that she hadn’t dropped him off at the babysitter yet. She found him dead at 5 PM when she left work. This afternoon, after my husband said to me “Did you let the dog out yet today?” and I responded, “no….yes….well I think I did but I can’t remember if that was yesterday!” it occurred to me that I am so consumed with the busyness of life that the redundant things often get lost or forgotten. I ache for this woman when I know everyone else is probably shunning her for doing such a thing. Accidents can and do happen to really good people….I guess all we can do is pray for them. Sadly, I don’t think “normalcy” will ever occur again for these women.
